14 Things I’ll Miss About College

14 Things I’ll Miss About College

With only 2 weeks left before the end of my college experience, I am experiencing an array of emotions. I worked hard, had fun and had an awesome 3 ½ years at college. As I prepare for the next chapter in my life in a mere 14 days, I look back at 14 things I will definitely miss about college.

Free gym access
I already don’t really like working out, but if I can work out for free, why not do it!

Having all my friends in close proximity
After college is finished, all of your friends move back home and you can be miles and miles apart 🙁 This is why a lot of people choose to continue their academic careers by doing a masters in sustainability, law, or any other subject so that they can further their careers and be close to friends.

My awesome Communication Arts teachers
My major is Comm Arts and I loved my teachers from the very beginning. You can’t ask for better professors when they really want to see you succeed and does all they can to help.

Getting daily compliments on my outfits
I love putting outfits together and I love my style. The daily compliments really make me feel super chic!

Having weekends free to sleep in
I have no work, internship, or classes on the weekends, which is awesome because I can actually get more sleep! Unfortunately things won’t be that simple in the “real world.”

Making my own schedule
I love being in charge of my own schedule and having my days and weeks be planned out just how I like them to be.

Studying abroad
Going to college allowed me to study abroad last summer for a month in Seoul, South Korea. I never ran out of things to do in Hongdae, or any area of the city. I am really thankful for that opportunity <3 Free Wi-Fi
Even though the Wi-Fi was terrible at times, it was cool to walk around campus and have my iPad connect to WI-Fi wherever I went.

Having three month long summer vacations and one month long winter breaks
This is the best! Spending three months of no homework and classes and only having to worry about working a job. And having one month to take a break mid-semester and relax… just awesome. It gives you plenty of time to get away on vacation, which is much needed. Catching a flight, or a private jet (with help from Jettly) for those who prefer to travel in style, is easy when you have three months to fit it in!

Having a home away from home
College literally becomes another home for you. You spend most of your time there so of course you get a little attached to it and appreciate it when you need to take time away from your actual home.

Late night food and Walmart runs with friends
Running to Sonic, Waffle House, Taco Bell, and Walmart late at night is always spontaneous, fun, and yummy. I will miss those late night random car rides.

On campus ceremonies, events, and dances
My college, Hood College, has so many traditions and fun events that take place usually on a weekly basis. Not being able to attend those events after this semester is definitely going to be a little sad.

My internship at a fashion boutique named Velvet Lounge
I loved my internship at VL, and it definitely helped me realize that I want to go into the fashion world. I will miss the people there and the shopping!

Fun PE classes like badminton, yoga, ballet, and tai chi
The PE classes I took were all amazing and taught me that working out can be enjoyable and creative.

There’s so much more I will miss about college, but I think this is a pretty good list. Now to finish these next 2 weeks strong!

Monday Morning Inspiration

Monday Morning Inspiration

Here are a few uplifting celebrity quotes and how you can apply them to your daily life. #loveyourlife

“If you are feeling low, don’t despair. The sun has a sinking spell every night, but it comes back up every morning.” – Dolly Parton

What Ms. Parton is saying here is that it is okay to be sad for a season because that depression or sadness shall past. Brighter days are in your future and you may not see them right now, but they are surely coming soon.

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” – CoCo Chanel

Why would you want to be like everybody else? You should strive to be different and unique and be the best you you can be. Coco is telling you that you will leave your mark on this Earth by standing out and above the crowd. If you do that, you can’t be beat!

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!” – Audrey Hepburn

What Audrey Hepburn is telling you is to follow your dreams no matter what. Don’t let any dream seem to big or too small. If a dream seems impossible, remember that it actually is possible. Work hard at it and don’t let anything or anyone stop you from reaching your goals and dreams.

“Smile and let everyone know that today, you’re a lot stronger than you were yesterday.” – Drake

Believe it or not, smiling helps you feel happier and more confident. Whether you are having the worst day or the best day, try to smile through the struggle. Who knows, your smile might bring joy to someone else who is struggling as well. Drake believes that you are stronger than you were yesterday and so should you!

“I don’t know what my path is yet. I’m just walking on it.” – Olivia Newton-John

I think that this is a perfect quote for college students or college grads. It’s terrifying and stressful figuring out what you want to do with your life, but sometimes a path is laid out in front of you. All you have to do is walk the path, hope for the best, stay motivated, and truly believe that you will reach that final destination at the end of the path.

Life After the Protective Style

Life After the Protective Style

If you have ever worn a protective style, wigs, Marley twists, box braids, etc., then you should know that bittersweet feeling of taking off the wig or taking out the twists or braids.

This is a bittersweet moment because hopefully you loved wearing your protective style and it made you feel different and you knew your hair was

protected and growing, and that’s the “sweet” part. The “bitter” part comes in when you realize you have to spends hours taking out your extensions and possibly have to go back to styling your hair every day.

Just because it is a bittersweet task, doesn’t mean you should never want to wear protective styles or you should leave your protective style in a ridiculously long time, it just means you have to be mentally prepared when you are getting ready to take out your braids or twists.

Why do you have to be mentally prepared, you ask? Because a lot of questions run through your head, just like they ran through mine when I took out my Marley twists this past Sunday.

Questions like:

Before and After

“What if I don’t look as pretty with my braids/twists out?”

“Am I still going to like my natural hair when I take them out?”
“What if my hair didn’t grow as much as I wanted it to?”
“Is it possible that I damaged my hair?”
“Should I get another protective style right away?”

And many, many, more, but these are just a few thoughts that ran through my mind. Here is where the mental preparedness comes in…you have to be able to combat those semi-negative questions with uplifting and positive answers like the ones listed below.

First question response: You have to know you look beautiful with or without your protective style.

Second question response: You should always love your natural hair, no matter the texture, length, etc. Your natural hair is amazing!

Third question response: You have to remember that your hair will grow. Don’t get too caught up in length where you start neglecting health. Healthy hair will grow no matter what.

Fourth question response: If you know that you moisturized and conditioned your scalp and hair while it was under your protective style, then you have nothing to worry about! You hair is not damaged at all.

Fifth question response: You shouldn’t get a protective style right away, especially not if you want to do it because you feel like you don’t look as good while wearing your natural hair. Give your hair a break and re-embrace your own hair!

If you were wondering what her term “naptural” means, here is that definition for you, found in a recent interview Whitney did.

Whitney: ““Naptural” hair is hair without boundaries or rules. It does what it wants in the moment, and it never apologizes.”

Fall Fashion Necessities

Fall Fashion Necessities

Every woman has a lot of clothing in her closet but sometimes you don’t know what to wear for certain seasons. Here are a few items you should definitely have in your closet for the fall weather.

A plaid flannel

If you’re among the few who by now don’t know How to wear flannel plaid shirt, I got you. Flannels can be dressed up with a cute skirt, tights, and tall boots or dressed down with a pair of jeans and flats. Not only can they be worn by themselves, but they also make for a perfect layering piece under a jacket or coat.

Fall colored lipstick

As the weather gets cooler, I believe that your lipstick should get deeper and darker. Fall colored lipstick consists of deep shades of red, orange, brown, and even dark purple. I have my eyes on some dark purple lipstick this fall because I would love to try something new.

Sweater leggings

Sweater leggings are not only colorful and comfy, they also keep your legs really warm. They are perfect for the fall when paired with a sweater or cardigan and they will even keep you warm and cozy during the winter months.

Tall boots

Tall boots literally can be paired with any and every thing. You can wear them with dresses, skirts, pants, leggings, and the list goes on and on. Tall boots come in a variety of colors such as browns, blacks, grays, and beige. They also come in a variety of lengths where some can stop above the knee, others on the knee, and some a little below the knee. It’s your preference!

Puffball beanie

This isn’t really a necessity for the fall, but they are just super cute! They are perfect for those lazy hair days and can add adorableness to almost any look. They also come in a variety of colors and styles.

I hope you consider adding some of these items to your fall wish list if you haven’t brought them already!
