Read more to hear what they had to share:

What would be your advice for someone transitioning from relaxed to natural hair for the very first time?

Transitioning is a personal process and you can do whatever suits you best so don’t get caught up in trying to “do it right”! If you want to big chop, big chop, if you want to wear protective styles, wear protective styles. You choose your journey. When I transitioned in college, headwraps were a great help for me. Being new to natural hair, some of my styles did not come out quite right, on days like those, headwraps saved my look!

What role does your brand play in the broader Natural Hair community?

Cee Cee’s Closet NYC celebrates the beauty and diversity of black women. We create our wraps with the purpose of empowering our customers to see the beauty in themselves and their heritage while also expressing their creativity. Much like your natural hair, your wrap is a canvas and you can create any look that makes you feel beautiful and confident.

How does your brand embody CurlyInCollege’s mission of “Embrace who you are, not who others want you to be?”

At Cee Cee’s Closet NYC we view headwraps as a form of self-expression. It’s all about you and what makes you regal. Any way you style them is the right way to style it!

What advice do you have for college students who may feel challenged on their natural hair journey?

Your hair is an expression of who you are but it can be a lot some days. Do what suits you and the time you have available. It’s OK to give yourself grace throughout your journey.

Curl Talk with Shea BODYWORKS + CurlyInCollege

Curl Talk with Shea BODYWORKS + CurlyInCollege

In our first CurlyInCollege Survival Kit we’re introducing subscribers to a few *NEW* Black, women-owned companies. One of which is Shea BODYWORKS. Their products are all natural and were created to nourish dry to extremely dry and sensitive skin.

This awesome brand was created by Saidah Pearsall, learn more in the interview below…

What would be your advice for someone transitioning from mainstream to natural products for the very first time?

When transitioning from mainstream to natural products do your research. All natural ingredients do not work the same. Make sure that the natural ingredients that you are using on your skin and hair are right for your skin and hair type.

What role does your brand play in the broader beauty and natural hair communities?

At Shea BODYWORKS we are in the business of creating skin experiences and not just skin care products. We often hear people say “I’m addicted to that Happy Hands and Feet Balm and I can’t stop using it”. When we hear comments like that, it confirms what we believe about creating experiences. Our brand is very simple and people seem to relate to us because of our simplicity. Every product is made with simple and natural ingredients that are easy to recognize and pronounce. We want people to feel confident in knowing that all of our products are made using only the best ingredients.

How does your brand embody CurlyInCollege’s mission of “Embrace who you are, not who others want you to be?”

We are an Indie brand, so we understand being unique. Our branding is a reflection of who were are, everything about Shea BODYWORKS says simple and natural. We feel it’s important to own your uniqueness and understand the importance of doing your own thing. When you truly stop worrying about what others think, you are able to stand in your greatness.

What advice do you have for college students who may feel challenged on their natural hair and skincare journey?

My advice would be to do your research and don’t be afraid to experiment with new products. There are a lot of brands catering to the natural hair and skin care community, so there are ton of product options. If you’re on a tight budget, go the DIY track and create your own products.
